About the department

Established in the academic session of 1971–1972, the Department of Philosophy stands as one of the oldest and most prestigious departments of this institution. Initially offering the B.A. General Course under Vidyasagar University, the department consistently elevated its academic standards, leading to its upgrade to a full Honours graduate program in the 1991–1992 session.

The department is deeply committed to providing students with a comprehensive understanding of the cultural, social, and religious heritage of Indian civilization. By integrating these foundational perspectives, the department seeks to humanize and enrich modern notions of progress, enabling students to foster and promote a distinct Indian cultural and philosophical identity.
